The winners of the Padel event with their prize: €500 for the Dutch Heart Foundation

After years of preparation, the time has finally come to take the next step in software. To move into the future, GreenCommerce is introducing a major technical update that will take the User Interface (UI) to the next level. GreenCommerce as you know it, but available anytime and anywhere. On 30 January, the first screens were presented to customers during the annual Padel Event.

Padel Event
On Friday 30 January, the second edition of the Padel Event took place at Plaza Padel in Rijswijk. GreenCommerce customers were invited to a sporty padel tournament, followed by drinks and dinner. The tournament was opened with a short speech, after which the GreenCommerce Future Proof launch video was shown. After an exciting final, Harva International narrowly claimed victory and will donate the €500 cheque for a charity of their choice to the Dutch Heart Foundation.

Software by and for fresh produce specialists
GreenCommerce is the leading software provider for fresh produce companies. To remain a leader, preparations have been underway for years for a transition to a web-based application. A renewed User Interface (UI) with the familiar GreenCommerce functionality. For users, this means no disruptive implementation or migration, but continuous development and growth opportunities within the platform.

Reason: breaking the software lifecycle
Software has a lifecycle: over time, the underlying technology is declared end-of-life, followed by a costly migration to a new system. This often results in the loss of customisations and client-specific adjustments. For users, it usually feels like a completely new purchase, with changes to how the software is used. jem-id believed this could be done differently. Martijn van Andel, owner of jem-id, explains: “We want to do things differently by keeping GreenCommerce technically ahead at all times, both in the underlying technology and the front end, while retaining the current structure and ease of use. Users can continue to benefit from existing functionality, combined with the security technologies and update capabilities that come with the new technology. No migration or go-live moment; users can simply continue working in GreenCommerce, after which components will be converted in phases.”

By transitioning users step by step to the new screens, a timely transition is ensured before Microsoft reaches an end-of-life status for the technology.

By upgrading the underlying technology to a future-proof version, continuous development and live updates for GreenCommerce become possible. This makes GreenCommerce the last software package users will ever need to purchase.

Next steps
The development of GreenCommerce Future Proof will take up a significant part of the development roadmap for 2026 and 2027. This is deliberate: “Thanks to solid preparation and extensive preliminary research, we have a very clear vision of the direction we want to take with GreenCommerce. Development takes time—that’s unavoidable—but with a clear course, we can work in a focused way. This allows us to keep waiting times limited and convert components in phases. In this way, users can benefit from GreenCommerce Future Proof as quickly as possible,” says Robin van den Broek, process architect and developer at jem-id.
