Barcode verifications in the FreshTracker inspection application

FreshTracker is the inspection application for fresh produce companies that work with GreenCommerce. Quality Control employees are responsible for correctly entering various inspection information in FreshTracker, after which this information is displayed in real-time in GreenCommerce. By means of FreshTracker inspection templates, inspectors can carry out the quality control of fresh produce.

There are quite a few barcodes in circulation within the fresh produce industry. In addition to the product labels, there are also box labels and pallet labels. A small mistake in one of the barcodes is easily made and can cause problems in the further use of the product.

Recently, a development has been done in FreshTracker, which makes it possible to validate and approve the quality of these barcodes. The barcode can be scanned with the camera of the device on which the application is installed. Thus the inspector can indicate whether a barcode can be scanned and if it is correct.

Validating barcodes via FreshTracker
When preparing a FreshTracker template, it is now possible to choose a new type, namely "Barcode scan". If this type is selected, the app will show a possibility to scan a barcode, which looks like this:

When opening the screen, the barcode will be empty by default. As a user you can use the [Scan] button to scan a barcode. As soon as a barcode is recognized, it will be entered in the text field. Then you can indicate whether the barcode has been read correctly or not.

It is of course possible that the barcode cannot be read. The scan action must then be stopped by clicking [Back]. The barcode is then considered "unreadable" and the check mark to indicate whether the barcode is correct is set to "no".

After the inspection report has been completed, it can be viewed in the app and in the browser. For the lines where a barcode has been checked (scanned), a color indicates whether it is correct or not.

In the Excel export of the inspection reports, an extra column has been added which indicates whether the barcode is correct or not:
